I have a bit of an addiction to pasta. To be honest, it’s actually a really serious addiction. However, you would hardly catch me eating penne – there’s something about it I just do not like (weird, huh?) Anyways, this pasta sauce is so simple it’s a mystery how it tastes so good. It’s also more unbelievable when you consider how few ingredients it uses. In fact, you probably already have all of these ingredients in your kitchen, so go ahead try it out for dinner tonight and let me know what you think.
Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce • Servings: 2
Nutritional Information: Calories: 337 • Carbs: 56 g • Protein: 12 g • Fat: 8 g
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1/4 medium onion, finely diced
- 2 large garlic cloves
- 2/3 – 1 cup of Tomato Sauce (I like Hunt’s) or Marinara Sauce (I like Bertolli)
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
- Dash of Sugar (to combat acidity of tomatoes)
- Grated Parmesan
- 4 oz Spaghetti
First, boil spaghetti according to package instructions. Next, finely dice onions and garlic. Heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and sautée over medium heat for about 2 – 3 minutes, or until soft. Pour in tomato sauce, and add salt and pepper to taste. Add a large pinch of sugar. You may also add crushed red pepper flakes if you’d like. Stir and cook over low heat for 7-10 minutes if using marinara sauce, or 20-25 minutes if using tomato sauce, stirring occasionally. Your sauce will become a much deeper red. Stir in pasta. Add grated parmesan and stir again. And you’re done. See, I told you that was easy. I usually have this with chicken and broccoli but at the same time it does work well on its own. Enjoy!
